FRP pipes / GRP pipes are manufactured using the widely used spiral winding method. FRP / GRP pipes manufactured by the fibre winding method utilise continuous rovings of raw glass impregnated with polyester resin spirally wound on a rotating mandrel at a specified winding angle. The winding process is carried out continuously in bi-directional layers until the desired wall thickness is achieved. FRP / GRP pipes manufactured by fibre winding have better physical properties than other methods and therefore FRP / GRP pipes manufactured by spiral fibre winding will have a longer service life without compromising supply costs.
GRP pipes are made from the composite material glass fibre and polyester resin.GRP is an inert material with excellent corrosion resistance, high chemical resistance and high weather resistance.
The filament manufacturing technology is wound together with the polymerisation and evaporation process to enable precise compliance with the regulations carried out to the forces for the construction of advanced fibre GRP pipes, which will have to come into contact with drinking water and food.
GRP pipes have a very smooth inner surface which provides a high "c" value, carries high flow rates with very low frictional head loss and provides better pumping costs and power savings.
GRP Pipes
The Hydraulic Design Basis (HDB) of Advanced Fibre Glass pipes is such that, even after 50 years of continuous service, it will have a safety factor of 1.8 times its pressure rating. As a result, GRP piping will have a longer service life, reliability and durability compared to CI, STEEL, GI and PSC piping, while having a much lower life cycle cost.
High tolerance to surge pressure, GRP pipes offer higher surge pressure tolerance and high stiffness, with very little chance of bursting due to water hammers compared to steel and CI pipes.
The lightweight GRP pipe has a lower strength-to-weight ratio than other materials. It is 1/10th the weight of PSC and 1/5th the weight of steel and 1/8th the weight of CI, therefore GRP piping offers simple and quick installation, handling, modification and maintenance.
GRP pipes have excellent thermal insulation properties, eliminating the need to externally insulate the pipe to maintain the internal temperature of the pipe.GRP pipes do not even require cathodic protection.
FRP pipes are ideal for transporting corrosive wastewater and sewage. the smooth inner surface of FRP pipes eases the flow of any type of fluid. The corrosion resistance of the pipe is also very important in this type of application. Lightweight, long lengths, high stiffness and easy installation are all important factors in choosing FRP pipes for applications such as alum and ferric chloride.
FRP pipes are manufactured using suitable polyester or vinyl ester thermosetting resins and glass fibre reinforcements.FRP is the construction material of choice for handling a wide range of corrosive chemical gases because of its ability to resist aggressive chemical media.
Chemical resistance, as well as high mechanical strength and excellent temperature resistance, make FRP piping systems and piping networks the product of choice for many chemical applications.
Even at large diameters, it is relatively lightweight makes installation easy and fast, thus saving on the cost of support structures and saving on system installation costs Where complex engineering and pipework is required, prefabricated pipe spools enable faster and more cost-efficient system installation.
